March 09, 2018 by Companio

Older adults with diabetic foot pain have greater risks of falling, due to standing instability which hence result in injuries or fractures.

Diabetes invites many physical problems with it like damaging nerves in legs, feet and hands that lessen sensory feelings like cold, heat or pain. This disorder is called Sensory Neuropathy, a branch of Diabetic Neuropathy.

Other problems of this sugary disease include Athlete’s foot causing fungus, calluses, corns, foot ulcers, ingrown toenails, fungal infection of toenails, poor blood circulation leading to slower healing process of wounds, difficulty in lifting the front part of the foot (Peroneal Nerve Palsy / Foot Drop), muscles and joint pain, sexual dysfunction, low energy, laziness, skin inflammation, digestion problems, et cetera. However, this blog concentrates on foot pain, leg pain and blood circulation.

Diabetes weakens the body and requires exercise for physical strength in every age. Even meditational activities can help in calming the mind, and maintaining health, while reducing tenseness in older people.

Most old people relate every health problem to their old age and think that nothing can be done about it, and that life will be habituated with the problem.

Patients with diabetic neuropathy have a problem of relating everything to diabetes and think that only pills can solve all their problems.

There’s more to do for improving diabetic health than just waiting for diabetes to be done with you.

The main question here is, what can be done about it? Well, there are many ways to deal with it.

  • Take the advice of your medical health officer or a specialist. Follow what they suggest and don’t skip to ask any questions that may come to your mind. Share every difficulty you are facing with diabetes, so that you can receive the best advice from them.
  • Never soak your feet in warm water. But do wash them with warm water every day. Don’t use hard soaps but use mild feet wash or soap to clean. Wash thoroughly between toes, like dirt, sweat infection, or germs hide between toes. Dry your feet completely after the wash, even between the toes.
  • Wear closed footwear to prevent feet from infections on the ground. Don’t walk barefoot in public places, as they are prone to various bacteria carried by the public. Clean footwear is a need to avoid your own foot infection of sweat.
  • Treat your feet well. Wear soft cottony socks to give comfort to feet and make them feel cosy.
